Our Music Practice

We protect, represent and license all forms of music for recording contracts, and as content for entertainment projects from Recording, TV, film, video, DVD and Internet, to toys, online delivery and new media uses. We have helped clients take advantage of their new and "legacy" music to keep catalogs producing income and help increase their value. If you are a writer, musician, band, studio, producer or play any role in the music industry, we can help you through our extensive networks of contacts in New York, Hollywood and internationally. Those who inherit music catalogs generally do not know their value; we can provide the expertise to maximize the value of these properties. A general rule is, "If it can't be cleared, don't use it."

Our Film Practice

We represent film investors, directors, Oscar-winning animators and other creative people in this complex industry. We are at the cutting edge of entertainment's migration to the Internet. Beverly Green, a Martindale Hubble AV-rated and renowned music and film attorney, has negotiated and continues to negotiate the best deals possible for her clients throughout the film industry. Clearance of rights is a crucial part of this practice.

We further our clients' business worldwide through contacts made practicing in entertainment since 1980. Our experience can help you avoid issues later in a promising career.

Our TV Practice

Mainly involved in the advertising and TV News portions of the television industry, we represent news personalities and help them obtain the best possible deals for their specialties on local news stations. We also have helped place music on many TV programs, protected the rights of our clients in pilots and programs, including documentaries, and protect rights of publicity in the names of TV personalities.

Our Publishing, Games & Arts Practice

Book publishing can be a very tenuous economic process and it involves clearance of rights, as well as defense, prosecution, and protection of Copyright. We can help at all stages of creative activity for games, books and art works. Our expertise includes representing major and world famous artists, authors and book publishers. E-books and the internet present constant challenges, and we have helped authors protect rights to their works from unauthorized uses and protect their good names from being exploited.

Our Right of Publicity Practice

The Right of Publicity is different from the Right to Privacy. Here we help famous and not-so-famous people maintain their right to use and license for compensation their names, voices, and likenesses, signatures, and sound-alike and look-alike features. This little-known creature of state law in many states and nations can be used as a sword and a shield to prevent unauthorized uses of a person's image and name, as well as to protect those rights for the use of their heirs.

Our Internet & Privacy Law Practice

The Internet is a fast-growing, constantly changing communications medium. We frequently assist large firms and corporate counsel in our fields of expertise. We service major businesses and communities in cyberspace including B2B, B2C and all other forms of Internet-related relationships. Over 90% of the value of any Internet-related business is Intellectual Property, and we foster its value by identifying and protecting all aspects domestically and internationally.

We provide an up-to-date "legal overlay" needed for the operation of web-based e-business, including privacy compliance, contracts, "Bots" and jurisdictional questions. We provide IP Audits and reviews of web site performance for legal coverage and insurance questions. The Right to Privacy, part of the California Constitution, is a major concern of our clients, both for the famous and those who might deal in e-commerce.

Talent Agents and Managers Practice

California is home to a great entertainment industry. The state legislature has long been concerned with the welfare of the industry's artists. In our practice, we address all issues of interest to the entertainment industry with respect to the latest developments in the California Talent Agency Act (Sections 1700 and 1700.47 of the California Labor Code) and manager regulation. It is often an effort to discern the intention and direction of the California legislature with respect to the latest amendments to the Talent Agency Act, and we help many to overcome the obstacles the Act creates, so they can form enforceable relationships between the Agents (licensed) or Managers (generally not licensed) and their artists and clients.

First Amendment Rights Practice

The First Amendment is a creature of U.S. law and is a unique way to protect the fundamental rights to expression, speech, religion and the right to privacy as part of the right to life and liberty. We have used litigation and agreements, and the zoning and planning laws, to fortify these rights. This includes the right to have a place to worship as one chooses, to speak one's mind, and to write and show entertainments without fear of prosecution. We help many of our clients comply with laws that regulate rated films, musical works, and internet presentations to prevent government intervention and enforcement as much as possible.
